GUT HEALTH TESTING

In Naturopathic Philosophy the gut is considered the seat of all health. The gut is not only responsible for  digestion and absorption of nutrients, but it plays a major role in immunity, mood, detoxification, metabolism, as well as hormone and brain function.

Metabolic and functional analysis of gut health can allow for insight into the underlying cause of dysfunction.

Common symptoms and conditions associated with abnormal gut function and imbalances include:

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Irritable Bowel Disease

Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO) Breath Test

The SIBO breath test is a simple, non-invasive test to test whether or not you have SIBO

The SIBO test requires you to swallow a lactulose substance after a 24 hour preparatory diet. If bacteria is present in the small intestine, the bacteria will ferment the lactulose and produce hydrogen and / or methane, which is exhaled via the breath.

Breath samples are collected every 20 minutes for 3 hours in the comfort of your home.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) Test

The two most simple ways for testing for H.pylori are either via a breath test or stool test

Stool Test:

A stool test looks for antigens associated with H.pylori infection in your stool. This test requires you to submit a sample of your stool (faeces) to the lab and can be done in the comfort of your own home. This can also be added into the CDSA for a more comprehensive analysis.

Urea Breath Test:

A breath test requires you to consume either a urea containing liquid or capsule to test for the presence of H.pylori. If H. pylori is present in your gastrointestinal tract, the material will be broken down into carbon dioxide gas and detected in your breath.
