Spotlight: EMDR — Processing Trauma and Distressing Experiences
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is one of the most well-evidenced therapies for trauma and PTSD — and it is often surprisingly effective even for people who have tried other approaches without success. It works by helping the brain process stuck memories and experiences, reducing their emotional charge and allowing people to move forward.
EMDR is available through our psychology team in-person and via telehealth.

What to Expect at Your First Psychology Appointment
During your initial appointment, your psychologist will take time to get to know you, your goals, and your concerns. Together, you’ll develop a plan to work towards.
Many people feel some anxiety before seeing a psychologist for the first time — that’s completely normal. Our team is here to make you feel comfortable and supported from the moment you arrive. Some people find it helpful to jot down a few notes beforehand — goals, concerns, or things you’ve been struggling with. Come as you are. We’ll take it from there.

Finding the Right Psychologist for You
Choosing a psychologist is a personal decision — and the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes in therapy. It can help to consider:
- Therapeutic approach — does it align with what you’re looking for?
- Areas of experience — does the psychologist have experience with your concerns?
- Communication style — do you feel comfortable and heard?
- Accessibility — are telehealth options available if you need them?
