Supporting ADHD and Neurodiversity in Young Adults
University life and early adulthood can be particularly challenging for people with ADHD, autism, or other neurodivergent profiles — especially when they’ve spent years developing workarounds and masking strategies that are becoming increasingly difficult to sustain. Our psychology team includes practitioners experienced in neurodiversity-affirming practice, supporting neurodivergent adults with ADHD assessment, post-diagnosis support, and therapy tailored to how their brain actually works.

Our Approach to Care
We don’t separate your mind from your body, your history from your present, or your nervous system from your symptoms. At The Wellness Emporium, holistic psychology means treating the whole person — not just the diagnosis.
Our psychologists integrate evidence-based modalities with an understanding of how lifestyle, relationships, hormones, and lived experience all shape your mental health. Because lasting change rarely comes from one angle alone.

Therapy Approaches
Our psychologists draw from a wide range of evidence-based approaches (depending on their training and your individual needs), including:
-
- Trauma-Informed Interventions (working with the body, inner child work)
- Attachment Work
- Mindfulness, Meditation & Body Work
- Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Schema Therapy
- Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Solution Focused Therapy
- Positive Psychology and Psychoeducation
- Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
- Motivational Interviewing
- Gottman Method Couples Therapy
- Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
- Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice
- Trauma-Informed Practice
Spotlight: Schema Therapy for Deep Patterns and Identity
Schema Therapy is particularly well-suited to young adults who find themselves repeating unhelpful patterns in relationships, work, or their sense of self — often patterns that developed in childhood or adolescence. It works at a deeper level than traditional CBT, addressing core beliefs and emotional needs that drive long-standing difficulties.
It is evidence-based, collaborative, and particularly valuable for people who feel they’ve tried other approaches but something deeper still isn’t shifting.

What to Expect at Your First Psychology Appointment
During your initial appointment, your psychologist will take time to get to know you, your goals, and your concerns. Together, you’ll develop a plan to work towards.
Many people feel some anxiety before seeing a psychologist for the first time — that’s completely normal. Our team is here to make you feel comfortable and supported from the moment you arrive. Some people find it helpful to jot down a few notes beforehand — goals, concerns, or things you’ve been struggling with. Come as you are. We’ll take it from there.

Finding the Right Psychologist for You
Choosing a psychologist is a personal decision — and the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes in therapy. It can help to consider:
- Therapeutic approach — does it align with what you’re looking for?
- Areas of experience — does the psychologist have experience with your concerns?
- Communication style — do you feel comfortable and heard?
- Accessibility — are telehealth options available if you need them?
