A psychologist is a trained mental health professional who supports individuals experiencing emotional, behavioural, and psychological challenges. At The Wellness Emporium, our registered psychologists and mental health workers use evidence-based practices alongside a holistic, individualised approach to support your mind, body, and soul.
Our psychologists and mental health workers provide therapy for individuals, couples, and families, and can assist with:
The perinatal period, from pregnancy through to the first year after birth, brings enormous change. Alongside the joy, many parents experience anxiety, low mood, intrusive worries or a sense of not feeling like themselves. Perinatal depression and anxiety are common, affecting up to one in five mothers and one in ten fathers or partners, and they are not a sign of weakness or of not coping “well enough”.
Post-natal depression can look different from what people expect. It may show up as irritability, exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix, difficulty bonding, constant worry about the baby’s wellbeing, or feeling flat and disconnected. Some people notice it in pregnancy, others weeks or months after birth. Hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, birth experiences, relationship changes and personal history can all play a part.
Support can make a real difference. Our psychologists work with new and expecting parents to understand what’s happening, ease the pressure and build practical ways of coping, and they can work alongside your GP, midwife or obstetrician. Sessions are available in clinic or by telehealth, which many new parents find easier to fit around a baby’s routine.
We don’t separate your mind from your body, your history from your present, or your nervous system from your symptoms. At The Wellness Emporium, holistic psychology means treating the whole person — not just the diagnosis.
Our psychologists integrate evidence-based modalities with an understanding of how lifestyle, relationships, hormones, and lived experience all shape your mental health. Because lasting change rarely comes from one angle alone.
Our psychologists draw from a wide range of evidence-based approaches (depending on their training and your individual needs), including:
CBT is one of the most widely researched therapies for depression and anxiety, including in the perinatal period. It looks at the link between thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and helps you notice patterns that keep distress going, such as harsh self-talk, all-or-nothing thinking or avoidance. Together with your psychologist, you build practical skills to respond to these patterns differently. CBT is structured and collaborative, and it’s available both in person and online.
Our psychology team brings a range of specialisations and approaches, and are experienced in supporting adults, couples, and young people across a wide range of concerns — from anxiety, trauma, and depression through to neurodiversity, relationships, and life transitions. All registered psychologists are fully registered with the Psychology Board of Australia.

During your initial appointment, your psychologist will take time to get to know you, your goals, and your concerns. Together, you will develop a plan to work towards.
Many people feel some anxiety before seeing a psychologist for the first time — that is completely normal. Our team is here to make you feel comfortable and supported from the moment you arrive. Some people find it helpful to jot down a few notes beforehand — goals, concerns, or things you have been struggling with. Come as you are. We will take it from there.
Our primary focus is supporting adults seeking individual therapy for a wide range of emotional and psychological concerns. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, burnout, or a significant life transition, our psychologists work collaboratively with you to understand what’s driving your experience and build a pathway forward that actually fits your life.
Both in-person appointments at our Burleigh Heads clinic and online telehealth sessions are available.
Our psychologists also support adolescents and young people experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges. Therapy is tailored to developmental needs and delivered in a supportive, age-appropriate environment.
Our clinic is at 2/19 James Street, Burleigh Heads. It’s our only in-person location, and we don’t have a clinic in Kirra.
From Kirra, Burleigh Heads is about a 20-minute drive north along the Gold Coast Highway, depending on traffic.
If travelling isn’t practical, our psychologists also offer secure telehealth sessions, available anywhere in Australia.
Choosing a psychologist is a personal decision — and the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes in therapy. It can help to consider:
