As soon as my sore throat hit, I took steps to fin As soon as my sore throat hit, I took steps to find out if it was viral or bacterial with a swab from my GP - As many GPs will often just prescribe antibiotics for a sore throat (without testing), but if it’s viral, they won’t help and can harm the beneficial gut bacteria that support your immune system. Results came back and there was no signs of bacteria so we knew it was viral - and pretty much its all about managing the pain then! So here’s what I turned to: ✨ Acupuncture – (thank you Peter @the_fit_acupuncturist ). Treatment usually works like magic for me and I tend to get over things quickly, but this virus was extra tough! So ended up having 2 sessions that week.. 💊 Paracetamol – The pain was intense; I could barely swallow. I managed symptoms with paracetamol so I could eat, drink, and talk (GP recommended steroids as another option, but paracetamol was enough in this case). 🍯 Manuka honey (500MGO+) mixed with Honey Suckle Dried Herbs as a tea - Thanks again Peter for the recommendation (the dried herbs actually tasted good for a change! Honey provides powerful antimicrobial support and is very soothing. 🌿 Individualised herbal tonic – Time to utilise my dispensary and popped together a immune mix! 🔄 Mediherb herbal throat spray – Calming for an irritated throat, with added immune support. 💊 Additional supplements – Cats claw, mushroom matrix, and zinc when I could swallow, all chosen for immune-strengthening and anti-viral properties. 💧 Hydration and rest – Between sips of water and much-needed naps, I focused on letting my body recover fully (though resting is always a challenge for me and I will admit I did work, which pushed my healing back! Yes lesson learnt!). My gut also wasn’t thrilled with all the extra remedies and meds, and with ulcerative colitis, a flare-up during illness is frustrating, especially when I know how far ive come with my own healing!
